The guided tours of the cellars of the Arezzo area promoted by the Terre di Arezzo Wine Road have restarted from 2 June. As usual, guided tours of the company and tastings are organized every Wednesday and Sunday (until 6 October). You can participate only by reservation. The appointments are an excellent opportunity to appreciate local productions and get to know the companies up close.
From 2 June to 6 October 2021, on Wednesdays and Sundays, the cellars of the Strada del Vino Terre di Arezzo will be open ONLY BY RESERVATION for visits and tastings.
By following all the health guidelines (protections to wear, distances to keep and mandatory routes to follow), the appointments will be an excellent opportunity to visit the cellars and, if possible, also the vineyards and taste the company’s wines together with the producers.
The wines
The Terre di Arezzo have always produced excellent wines and the numerous denominations of controlled origin are proof of this. The reds have always been the best known and appreciated wines but also the white wines give great expression thanks to the lands, the sun and the passion of those who have been caring for their cultivation and production for generations.The main grape of our province is Sangiovese, which gives character to most of our wines and is recognized for its tannins and freshness. Our main wines are Sangiovese based: the DOCG Chianti and Chianti Colli Aretini, some types of the DOC Cortona, the DOC Valdichiana Toscana and the DOC Valdarno di Sopra. Vines with an “international” character such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot also spread, which produce wines of great power and olfactory breadth (not surprisingly they are defined as “semi-aromatic”) and intense color. have covered our hills, moreover, there have always been “strange” vines and some of these still today we do not know how to define the variety: they are the vines that in the past served as a blend of Sangiovese but which today have acquired an exceptional value . Today, thanks to the recovery of these “historic” native vines (such as Canaiolo, Malvasia, Foglia Tonda, Pugnitello, Colorino, Orpicchio, Lacrima del Valdarno, Barsaglina and many others) Sangiovese has rediscovered many companions of the past, and wines with the “spirit of the place” are increasingly widespread and appreciated. Special mention for the traditional wine: Vinsanto, produced from grapes left to dry after harvest (generally Trebbiano and Malvasia). After drying, the grapes are pressed and the must is transferred into kegs of various woods of variable size from which the vinsanto of the previous production had just been removed. Once sealed, the kegs are usually placed in attics where the strong summer-winter temperature variations help fermentation. The aging in casks ranges from three to over ten years.
